Artificial Intelligence in the Nursing Profession: Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the application of technology that allows robots to do tasks like learning, thinking, and decision-making that need human intelligence. In the healthcare sector, AI greatly enhances clinical procedures, operations, and diagnosis. The purpose of AI in nursing is to improve the human-centred aspect of patient care. AI can increase patient safety, improve the efficacy of patient care, and reduce nurses' workloads. Two chatbots that provide real-time emotional support and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)- based interactions are Woebot and Wysa. Nurses may have to prioritise patients who require emergency or critical care due to the nature of their work. Another AI technique that can assist with this is predictive analytics. AI-integrated nursing care helps nurses deliver better care by utilizing state-of-the-art technology to enhance workflows and patient outcomes. By combining AI-driven solutions with conventional nursing practices, hospitals can address complicated patient needs while reducing the effort of their nursing staff.
