Banks, which provide states with capital that allows them to achieve strategic goals in the political, social, military and economic dimensions, are guarantors of the stability of the financial system. The financial stability of the state, in turn, affects political stability, which makes the Polish banking system a target for attacks carried out by entities that are sources of cyber threats. An extensive analysis of available literature, Internet resources and research conducted using a research survey and expert interviews allowed this dissertation to: indicate the connections between the Polish banking system and the security of the Republic of Poland, including the area of cybersecurity; analyze cyber threats related to the banking system and their impact on the security of the Republic of Poland in the context of digital transformation; present a number of possible motivations for entities that are sources of cyber threats, including state and non-state entities; outline the issue of attribution; determine the possible consequences of attacks, including socio-economic effects in the state, regional and global dimension; determine the directions of actions that should be taken
