The effect of polydioxanone (PDO) thread implantation on collagen density and metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1) levels in the skin of male Wistar rats

With age, collagen levels in the skin decrease, leading to weakening of its structure and visible signs of aging. One method designed to stimulate collagen is the implantation of biodegradable threads into the dermis. The aim of the experimental study with a randomized control group was to determine the effect of polydioxanone (PDO) thread implantation on collagen density and matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) levels in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study found that collagen density and MMP-1 levels were higher in skin tissue implanted with PDO cogged threads formed without the use of heat, compared to thermally formed threads.
