Critical Care Challenges in Orthopedic Surgery Patients

Over the past ten years, there has been a significant change in the treatment of trauma patients. Recent advancements in clinical trial networks and greater understanding of the acute injury response have boosted research in trauma care. But still in rural India, it is difficult to provide quality surgical care that is both safe and effective. In many LMIC healthcare systems, including those in India, orthopedic surgeons with recent training and little experience working alone to give care without an anesthesiologist are a common scenario. Another challenge is the absence of precise definitions for problems like nonunion or infection, that has made it difficult to calculate the effect of fracture-related complications. There are currently no available standards criteria and no agreement on the definition. Due to the unpredictable nature of bone injury, the wide range of concurrent injuries that may need to be taken into consideration and the frequent occurrence of life-threatening conditions in emergency care, the surgical fixing of skeletal fractures can be very difficult. This study deals with understanding such challenges faced during the postoperative critical care of patients
