The association between migraine and epilepsy is complex and bi-directional. In migraine and epilepsy transient neurological symptoms, normal neurological and physical findings between events and genetic/familiar disposition are common. Recent basic research findings revealed pathophysiological links between migraine and epilepsy. Also, epidemiological studies suggested that the occurrence of migraine and epilepsy in an individual could be beyond changes. Comorbid conditions may create therapeutic opportunities, antiepileptic agents like divalproex sodium and topiramate may prevent attacks of both migraine and epilepsy.
