The copper(II) complexes [CuL][ClO4]2 (1) and [CuL2][ClO4]2 (2) were prepared by reacting Cu(ClO4)2 with the heteroleptic diorganoselenide [2-(Me2NCH2)C6H4](CH2CH2pz)Se (L) in the appropriate molar ratio. They were investigated in solution by UV-Vis spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Crystals of [Cu{Se(O)(CH2CH2pz)(C6H4CH2N(H)Me2-2)}2(MeCN)][ClO4]4·MeCN (2a) were serendipitously formed during the attempts to grow single-crystals of compound 2.The molecular structure of 2a was determined by X-ray diffraction, when a bidentate N,O coordination behaviour of the diorganoselenoxide was observed.
