Aim: to study an impact of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) on urodynamic parameters and quality of life in patients with localized prostate cancer (PC) before and after low-dose brachytherapy (BT) I125 Materials and Methods: the paper highlights results of a prospective comparative study in two groups (n=168). The study group (n=84) with localized PC and urination disorders received TURP before I125 BT The control group with localized PC without urinary disorders received BT only. The authors assessed prostate volume, peak urinary flow rate (Qmax), postvoid residual volume (PVR), International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), and patient-reported quality of life (QoL) related to urination disorders. Results: in 3 months after BT, TURP reduced prostate volume by 45% (from 52.6±22.4 cm3 to 28.8±9.8 cm3), increased Qmax by 163% (from 8.71±3.8 ml/s to 22.9±8.1 ml/s), and lowered PVR by 85% (from 74.1±59.7 ml to 11.0±13.7 ml). IPSS decreased by 73% (from 22.0±4.2 to 5.9±3.8). These effects persisted within 12 months after BT, and they were not associated with increased incidence of urinary incontinence.
