Power Quality Management Using Electrical Energy Audit Analysis in the Traction Testing Industry with Hybrid Energy Sources

P. Nagaveni, A. Amudha · Recent Advances in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Formerly Recent Patents on Electrical & Electronic Engineering) · 2026

Introduction: A reliable and high-quality power source must remain continuously available, exhibit a pure sinusoidal waveform, and operate within permissible limits of frequency and magnitude. In traction testing industries, dynamic and high-power loads often introduce substantial electrical disturbances, making an efficient and stable power supply vital for accurate testing and operational reliability. Methods: This study presents an electrical energy audit conducted at a traction testing facility to evaluate the impact of harmonic generation on both the grid and industrial systems. Measurements were taken under different supply conditions, utility (EB), solar, and Diesel Generator (DG), using a power quality analyzer to monitor voltage, current, power factor, voltage imbalance, and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) across multiple feeders. Results: The analysis revealed considerable voltage imbalance, reduced power factor, and THD levels exceeding recommended standards. Implementation of
