The author describes a hypothesis that without a focus on comparing artificial intelligence and human intelligence, the scientific community could accelerate the progress of AI-related research including solving the problem of trust in AI technologies. Anthropocentrism is shown as a limiting factor for trust in AI, and therefore the AI technology acceptance and development. The author analysed the premises for comparing functions of AI and human intelligence capabilities: from some theories on the philosophy of mind and theory of communication to philological influences and psychological tendencies. The article examines the arguments against comparing artificial intelligence functions with human intelligence capabilities: a theoretical possibility of substrate-free intellect, the incompleteness of human intelligence, the sufficiency of having an AI compared to other biological species for the major risk scenarios, and the fundamental shift from the anthropocentric-based platform.
