Structural health monitoring of infrastructure with sensors: from detection to prevention

UK researchers have found a way of using infrastructure sensor data to predict – rather than simply to detect – structural damage. Valerie Livina at the National Physical Laboratory and Marcus Perry at the University of Strathclyde say it works with concrete and is now being tested on steel.
