Over 9000 Londoners may die early every year from toxic air. Transport is a major contributor to the problem, so the city plans to become Europe’s ultra-low-emissions vehicle capital and achieve zero transport emissions by 2050. However, to do so means overcoming a profound barrier to low-emission vehicle uptake: the availability of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. This paper describes how a government-funded scheme is helping London’s boroughs install over 1000 charge points across the city by the end of 2020.
