Thameslink programme, UK: collaboration at London Bridge station

Liam Farrell, Simon Blanchflower, Tim Witcomb · Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Civil Engineering · 2020

Completed in 2019, the Thameslink Programme was a £7 billion scheme sponsored by the UK government to transform north–south rail travel across London. One of the most challenging elements was redevelopment of London Bridge station. The number of interfaces, combined with the work’s scale and complexity, led to a new way of working with major suppliers. A collaborative partnership was formed, combining the skills, expertise and experience of all organisations into one effective delivery unit. Despite a challenging schedule, the partnership delivered against all its milestones and is recommended for similar complex projects.
