DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE JUBILEE LINE EXTENSION TUNNELS.

H R DAVIES · Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Civil Engineering · 1999

The Jubilee Line Extension took the London Underground network for the first time into the difficult waterlogged sands and gravels in the south east of the capital. However, there were very few problems with the now tried-and-tested technology of earth pressure balance tunnelling machines. This paper describes the general specification for the precast concrete, cast iron and sprayed tunnel linings and then highlights some of the many innovations which both designers and contractors introduced on each of the six main tunnelling contracts.
