Two years after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there are early signs of legacy success. This paper reviews the planning and delivery of the games legacy and identifies the elements driving success. These include early identification of legacy aims and mechanisms for safeguarding their delivery, as well as site selection and the extraordinary planning permissions secured. The temporary structures and sustainability of venues and infrastructure helped to ensure the legacy of the Olympic Park, sustainable transport and new community assets for east London. It was a unique combination of principles, purpose, professionals and collaboration.
