Nuclear cardiology techniques in atrial fibrillation (review)

D. V. Ryzhkova, O. V. Karpova · Russian Journal of Cardiology · 2026

This paper analyzes Russian and international literature to determine the diagnostic efficacy of radioisotope methods with various radiopharmaceuticals in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We search for publications in PubMed and Elibrary databases covering the period 20002025 focused on the use of radioisotope methods with various radiopharmaceuticals. This review highlights the potential of radioisotope diagnostic methods such as singlephoton emission computed tomography and positron emission tomography with various radiopharmaceuticals in patients with AF. The diagnostic and prognostic aspects of radioisotope technologies for persistent and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation are discussed. The contribution of [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy in planning interventional treatment for AF is noted. Radioisotope imaging makes a significant contribution to diagnosing the causes of arrhythmia and has prognostic value in predicting adverse events and treatment effectiveness.
