In the November edition of the Journal of Children’s and Young People’s Nursing, Richardson and Glasper (2007) draw attention to the importance of the current review of the future of pre-registration nurse education (Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), 2007), and in particular, the implications of this on children and young people’s nursing. However, it is also extremely important to note that at the same time a parallel consultation is taking place, focusing on learning beyond registration. This second consultation, entitled Towards a Framework for Post Registration Nursing Careers (Department of Health (DH), 2007), is being undertaken by the DH, within a similar timeframe to its pre-registration counterpart (closing date 15 February 2008). Like the ‘pre-registration review’, its outcome could have significant implications for the future care of children and young people.
