Nurses play a pivotal role in research within the NHS. In this article, Andrew Dainty and Joanne Cooper aim to discuss the opportunities for nurses to become involved in the research process and Andrew Dainty also shares his experiences in applying for a prestigious award to undertake clinical academic training. It is hoped that this article will inspire nurses who have considered becoming involved in clinical research to begin to make enquiries into the research activity within their clinical environment. Clinical academic training is discussed as a possible career option for nurses who wish to embark on a research career.
