The RCN has been deliberating over a new definition of nursing and has recently put forward the following for consultation: ‘Nursing is the use of clinical judgment and the provision of care to enable people to promote, improve, maintain, or recover health or, when death is inevitable, to die peacefully’ (RCN, 2002).
