Stroke management needs to evolve to address the continuing burden imposed by cerebrovascular morbidity and mortality. Neuroinflammation, while potentially beneficial, also increases the likelihood that the patient will develop comorbidities, such as dementia or seizures. Neuroprotective measures could allow the benefits of inflammation to be realised, while minimising adverse effects.
