Health or social care? Bridging the divide

I am sure that recent news reports of funding being taken away from vulnerable, elderly people with dementia as their condition deteriorates cannot have escaped your attention. The argument is that during the stage of the illness when patients can still communicate and may have challenging behavioural problems, they need nursing care. As they deteriorate and become less capable of mobilizing, communicating and maintaining even the most basic of their personal care, these patients no longer need nursing care, but social care.
