Suffering a traumatic brain injury (TBI) is very hard. Caring for and being close to a sufferer is traumatizing in a different way. I've written before about taking part in a research study being conducted by a clinical psychologist at the University of Glasgow into the relationship between TBI and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr Reid recently contacted everyone who participated in her study and reported back on her findings. She had used a very kinetic form of research involving colour-identification in order to help her to assess whether some people with severe or very severe head-injuries were being misdiagnosed: PTSD might have been overlooked, to the disadvantage of the patient, given that there are now psychological treatments to address the condition which can be offered.
