This month has seen the publication of the report on the Prime Minister's Commission on the Future of Nursing and Midwifery in England (Department of Health, 2010). This commission only applies to nurses working in England and not to nurses and midwives working in other countries within the UK, yet again emphasizing the differences in health-care provision and practice throughout the country. Some of the recommendations, however, are directed at the Nursing and Midwifery Council, so will impact on nurses in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland by default.
