Neuroscience nursing needs more nurses to engage with clinical research to contribute to the development of the evidence base for our practice. For years nurses have been participating in education to assist in understanding research and to learn to critique the evidence, and yet so few nurses go on to develop these skills further by contributing to our body of knowledge themselves. With the advent of an all-graduate entry to the profession on the horizon there is going to be an even greater drive for currently qualified nurses to stay one step ahead of the game and develop themselves further academically. Many neuroscience nurses have achieved a post-qualification degree through employer-funded study, but now is an opportune time for those nurses and others who are nearing this point to take the next step and engage with research. It could almost be considered immoral not to make use of the skills that have been gained through study in this way.
