Parkinson's disease is currently incurable and affects 120 000 people in the UK. Research using donated brain tissue is essential in the search for a cure. The Parkinson's Disease Society has launched a nationwide Brain Donor Appeal to raise awareness and encourage more people—with or without Parkinson's—to pledge to donate their brains, as some celebrities have done, such as BBC Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman and actress Jane Asher.
