A disturbing report was published in The Sunday Times newspaper on 5 November identifying that there were moves to allow euthanasia of severely disabled babies (Templeton, 2006). The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is calling for doctors to consider killing the ‘sickest newborns’ who survive today because of technological advances. If such a proposal were established today, many thousands of people with disabling neurological problems may never have survived to live the fulfilling lives they do.
