In 1494 it was believed that one of the ways of identifying a witch was by the presence of seizures. In the early 19th century, people who had severe epilepsy were cared for in asylums but were kept separated from other groups of people because seizures were thought to be contagious. And, what's more, centuries back, seizures were thought to be a curse from the gods. What thoughts and images do the words ‘epilepsy’ and ‘seizure’ conjure up in your mind?
