Syringomyelia

Sue Woodward · British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing · 2006

Syringomyelia is characterized by the presence of a cystic cavity (syrinx) or cavities within the spinal cord. This is a rare neurological complication of a variety of other conditions and the incidence is estimated to be 8.4 per 100 000 per annum (Di Lorenzo and Cacciola, 2005). The peak age of onset is 25-40 years. Males are affected more commonly than females.
