An audit was performed to determine whether GPs were satisfied with the reports of barium studies that they had requested. THE STANDARD: “The reports on barium examinations should be clear to the general practitioner and address the clinical question which has been posed in 100% of cases”. METHODOLOGY: A questionnaire was sent to GPs with each barium report. each barium report. A total of 170 questionnaires were sent to 59 different GPs. 131 completed questionnaires were returned (77%). RESULTS: 81% of reports were judged by GPs to be “good”, 17% “adequate” and 2% “inadequate”. In 10% the GPs felt the clinical question was not addressed in the reports. The GPs complained that 11% of the reports did not reach them promptly (most of these took longer than 10 days).
