Proceedings of The British Institute of Radiology Chemical modification of radiation effects: experimental and clinical, November 13, 1987

The British Journal of Radiology · 1988

This review is concerned with possible ways in which effects occurring within an irradiated volume of tissue may be modified by chemicals. From the standpoint of radiation therapy such a volume will contain the tumour being treated plus one or more normal tissues, damage to which will limit the radiation dose. Any strategy of chemical modification will only be of therapeutic benefit if the ratio of tumour to normal tissue response is increased.
