“Cure” in clinical radiotherapy does not necessarily represent the sterilisation of all tumour cells. A sufficient reduction in the number of reproductively intact tumour cells, followed by slow regrowth from the few survivors, may perhaps lead to no clinical symptoms within the lifetime of the patient. While much attention has been paid in recent years to effects of various radiations upon survival of cellular reproductive capacity, there has been less information about effects of different radiations upon cellular regrowth in systems where gross immune incompatibilities do not invalidate the results.
