A Note on Compressible Flow through Orifices in Series

A Anderson · Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science · 1992

Because of the form of the standard equation for compressible flow through an orifice, it is difficult to solve problems for orifices in series where the inter-orifice pressures are not known a priori. However, a simple graphical construction combines the mass flowrate-pressure characteristics for individual orifices to give a single overall characteristic for those orifices in series. This also enables the main features of the flow to be examined, including the conditions under which it chokes.
