Dynamics and Thermodynamics of Transient States in Engineering Liquid-Vapour Systems

Using the first law of thermodynamics an energy equation is derived, applicable to the transient analysis of engineering two-phase fluid systems. Energy and continuity relations are applied to obtain equations describing changes in the condition of a two-phase fluid in a cylinder and in a boiler drum. Finally, with the addition of a suitable momentum equation, the one-dimensional time-dependent two-phase flow of a fluid in a pipe of varying area, with heat transfer and fluid friction, is described in terms of six independent partial differential equations.
