The Limits of the Medical Model in Child Psychiatry

Good science and clinical practice are based on sound logical thinking. The bioscientific ‘medical model’ is learned by doctors in their original training, then brought and adapted to the field of mental health by psychiatrists. This article uses ‘conduct disorder’ as a test and clarification of the rationale of the otherwise valuable medical model and the limits of its applicability in child psychiatry.
