The Completion of Training in Psychiatry: A Transitional Phase

The transition from psychiatric residency into practice is a phase of psychiatric training which has received insufficent attention, both in the literature, and in psychiatric training programs. This paper describes some of the changes which occur within the person during this transition phase and points to the need for more discussion of this vital period in the making of a psychiatrist.
