Phasors without Mathematical Legerdemain

C. G. Herbert · International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education · 1980

A mathematically sound and physically appealing method of introducing phasors is presented. The method gives equal importance to polar and rectangular forms, clearly distinguishes time and frequency domains, explains the need for phasors before considering the technique, uses a form of inverse tangent appropriate to four quadrants and leads naturally to more profound transformation techniques which the student will later encounter.
