The oxidative phosphorylation, adenosine 5′-diphosphate (ADP) affinity and exogenous nicotinadenine nucleotide (NAD) reduction by tumoral and normal submaxillary gland mitochondria of C3H mice were studied. No significant differences owing to ADP :O₀ ratio have been found, while respiratory control ratio was noticeably higher for the mitochondria of the submaxillary gland. The addition of ADP increased the respiratory rate at a greater extent in the tumoral mitochondria. The ADP concentration to obtain half-maximum rate did not differ significantly between normal and tumoral mitochondria. 2,4 dinitrophenol raised the respiratory rate both in normal and tumoral mitochondria, but it was more effective in the former. The reduction of NAD was three times greater with neoplastic mitochondria.
