Immunobiological Entity of Human Leukemia Reproduced in Cayman

Filtered extracts from human leukemic organs were injected into baby caymans. The extract obtained from the visibly enlarged lymph nodes and spleen of the infected caymans were found by immunodiffusion tests to be reactive with their sera, but not with the sera of caymans injected with heat-inactivated filtrates. Most of the sera received from leukemic patients reacted with the extracts from caymans injected with the non heated human leukemic material. These observations suggest that a human leukemic entity has been reproduced in caymans, yielding a sufficient amount of the antigens to be detected by immunodiffusion.
