Hormones, Chemotherapy, and the Breast Cancer Patient

44% of female patients with disseminated breast cancer responded to systemic chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU). This tumor response was associated with a prolongation ofHydroxyurea effective survival. Chemotherapy response appeared relatively in Medications dependent of the menstrual status of the patient, or of her response Toxicity to hormonal therapies. Women with less than a 1-year free interval Survival between the primary and recurrent tumor had a lower response rate. The patients who responded to adrenalectomy also responded to chemotherapy. Adrenalectomy was no contraindication to chemotherapy, although the adrenalectomy non-responders may never receive chemotherapy. There were no toxic deaths in this series. Malignant effusions responded well to intracavitary and systemic 5-FU.
