Model experiments demonstrated that pedunculated atrial tumors, approximately the diameter of a mitral valve, caused atrioventricular stenosis and regurgitation. Since the impairment of valvular mechanics increased at faster heart rates, intentional slowing of the heart may offer a potentially beneficial adjuvant tosurgical therapy
