Revised Galileo Data Leave Jupiter Mysteriously Dry

Where has Jupiter's water gone? Planetary scientists are puzzling over that problem, thanks to data from the Galileo space probe, reported on ( page 846 ). The latest results clear up some initial confusion over the data, but suggest that Jupiter has only 10% of its predicted water. Theorists are left pondering the implications for how the giant planet formed.
