The extensive presence of air in the submucosal area of the colon was observed on abdominal radiographs of a one‐year‐old female Maltese. The diagnosis of pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (pneumatosis coli when localized to the colon) is made when radiographs demonstrate submucosal or subserosal gas accumulation of the intestinal tract. The condition usually resolves spontaneously, but the potential for complications is present.
