This issue of News & Views will review notable presentations from the 18th Annual Scientific Session of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE), which took place in New Orleans, Louisiana, May 7‐10, 1997. Highlights of the meeting included presentation of the results of clinical trials using implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs) in patients with life‐threatening ventricular arrhythmias, and the application of interventional techniques for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF).
