SummaryFrequency distributions of total ridge‐count are given for a population sample of 825 males and 825 females. The mean ridge‐count for males is 144·98 (σ= 51·079), for females 127·23 (σ= 52·507). The difference between these means is highly significant by the t test. The distributions are non‐Gaussian. The skewness (g1) and kurtosis (g2) of each has been calculated. Both distributions are negatively skew and flattened, although the value of g2 in the males only reaches 1·7 times its standard error. The other values are highly significant.
