Hyperprolactinaemia: Don't forget hypothyroidism!

SUMMARYFemale patients with mild clinical symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism may be overwhelmed by the accompanying manifestations of hyperprolactinaemia. Radiological imaging may show enlargement of the pituitary gland. In these cases a primary diagnosis of hypothyroidism may not be considered. Long‐term bromocriptine mesylate treatment or surgery can be avoided if the diagnosis is considered and the thyroid function test performed.
