Lumbar Posterior Vertebral Spur

ABSTRACTTen cases of displacement of the posterior lumbar rim apophysis are presented. Four in adolescents occurring as acute injuries and six in adults with long histories of back pain. Three members of the latter group had radiological evidence of Scheuermann's Disease elsewhere in the spine. The radiological appearances of the displaced rim are discussed. Included is a case in which MRI demonstrates a bony spur attached to the posterior surface of the L4 vertebra and protruding into the spinal canal.
