ABSTRACTMagnetic resonance imaging is a sensitive modality for brain imaging, but has been less successful in the rest of the body. Recent advances however are improving image quality and increasing diagnostic accuracy. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has exciting prospects for analysing in‐vivo metabolism. This paper discusses the basic physical principles of nuclear magnetic resonance, the factors influencing choice of pulse sequence and interpretation of the images.
