Treatment of Adenocarcinoma of the Paranasal Sinuses in Tasmania

C.I.V. FRANKLIN · Australasian Radiology · 1985

ABSTRACTA survey was made of all cases of malignant tumours arising in the paranasal sinuses, occurring in the State of Tasmania between 1966 and 1982. There were 36 cases, with 25 being adenocarcinoma. Treatment was by surgery and radiotherapy in various regimes; however, there is a high rate of local recurrence. This is probably due to the dose perturbation as a result of the complex shielding often used to protect brain and orbit. The survival rate is poor, with 50% alive at 2 years and 34% alive at 5 years.
