ABSTRACTA mummy of the period 500‐300 BC was radiographed. The upper limbs were crossed over the thorax. The only pathology found was calcified atheroma. Multiple fractures and skeletal mutilation are attributed to artefact from embalming, and possibly re‐wrapping. The mummy is probably genuine as these observations confirm the inscription of the coffin.Medical radiologists should be aware of embalming artefacts.
