A Case of Afferent Loop Syndrome

G. PERETZ, K. C. SIMMONS · Australasian Radiology · 1983

SUMMARYA case of an obstructed afferent loop diagnosed by computerised tomography is presented. A definitive sign identifying dilated small bowel on C.T. is described. The post gastrectomy afferent loop syndrome results from obstruction of the afferent loop by recurrent tumour or strictures. This may result in obstruction to the outflow of bile and pancreatic fluid. The ultrasound and C.T. findings can mimic a recurrent necrotic tumour mass or a pancreatic pseudocyst (1).
