The Acute Radiation Syndrome

SUMMARYWhole body radiation in doses greater than 100 rem produces the acute radiation syndrome, i which may be fatal.The final assessment of the degree of radiation damage sustained by a casualty will be made on the clinical findings, supported by serial blood examinations, and perhaps by biochemical and physical estimations, but the early assessment can only be made by knowledge of the physical circumstances of the accident and by the rapidity of appearance of the symptoms and their severity.
